What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is the use of virtual technology to provide therapy outside the traditional office setting. Telehealth is accessible and convenient, permitting you to participate in a secure video appointment with your therapist from your laptop, tablet, or mobile device. Therapy is no longer confined to an office. Get the mental health support you need anytime, anywhere.

Preparing For
Your Telehealth Appointment

Prior to your telehealth appointment, you will receive an email from our practice that includes a link directing you to your session. If you are using a laptop or computer, it is unnecessary to download any additional software. If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you will need to download the Telehealth by SimplePractice mobile app.

Before Your Appointment…

Please Do:

  • Secure a private location with comfortable seating

  • Make sure you have a pair of headphones (this can help ensure privacy/improve sound if your device does not have high quality speakers)

  • Use an internet connection with a bandwidth of 10 MBPS minimum

  • Ensure your device has webcam & microphone

  • Use Ethernet instead of wifi when possible, wired internet is generally a more stable connection

Please Do Not:

  • Leave other applications open during your appointment, shared bandwidth can impact the quality of your connection 

  • Choose location with additional background noise (loud pets/TV blare, etc)

  • Schedule your appointment at a time of day where you will be interrupted or distracted

  • Telehealth appointments occur remotely, you become responsible for securing a location that facilitates the sense of safety and privacy traditionally established in the therapy office. Just like a face to face appointment, your telehealth session is private and confidential. Research indicates that effectiveness of telehealth is on par with face to face therapy. You still experience the consistency of regular appointments with a therapist committed to serving your mental health needs.

  • Use an internet connection with a bandwidth of 10 MBPS minimum. To improve your connection, when possible use Ethernet instead of wifi. Make sure to close all other applications on your tablet, computer, or mobile device to maximize your bandwidth.

  • Telehealth appointments are never recorded or stored.

  • The following equipment is Telehealth accessible: a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam & speakers, tablet with webcam & speakers, or a smartphone with at least iOS 11 or an Android 7.0.

  • If you don’t get the reminder, contact your therapist and they will resend the link through email or secure messaging.

  • The cost of a Telehealth appointment through Discover Hope is the same as a traditional therapy appointment.
