Women Supporting Women

Mom, daughter and grandma after family therapy in Redding, CA

This month we celebrated National Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and honoring the incredible women who have had a major impact on us and the world past and present.

Women Throughout History

Some of those women include Rosa Parks, Anne Frank, Queen Elizabeth II, known throughout history books as women who have made waves. Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to graduate from medical school and become a doctor in the United States in 1849. In 1917, Jeannette Rankin became the first woman elected to Congress as a member of the House of Representatives. Amelia Earhart was the first woman, and second pilot ever, to fly across the Atlantic in 1932. In 2021, Kamala Harris became the first woman Vice President in United States history. This is just a small handful of the impactful, brave, strong, and hardworking women that have shaped our history and continue to shape our world today.

Celebrating Women in Our Lives

National Women’s Day isn’t just about those women that made a difference historically, but also to acknowledge the women in our lives that have had a major impact on us. It is a celebration of being proud to be a woman for those of us who are, and to express gratitude for the world that has changed for the better and inspire the change that we continue to seek. Whether it’s your mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, or another special woman, today and throughout this month is the perfect time to show gratitude and appreciation. For many of us, our mother is our first and foremost source of inspiration. From an early age, mothers teach us the importance of love, respect, and kindness. They provide us with the support, encouragement, and guidance we need to become the best version of ourselves. Mothers play a huge role in shaping our lives and impact us in ways that no one else can. Sisters are also a source of inspiration and strength for many women and can sometimes take on the role of mother for many of those without one. They can be our best friends and confidants, always there for us in good times and bad. Sisters provide us with a different kind of comfort from our mothers, helping us to understand the world from a different perspective. They are our cheerleaders, helping us to reach our goals and dreams, and encouraging us to be our best selves. Our grandmothers are also a major source of inspiration in our lives. Grandmothers teach us the importance of family, tradition, and culture.

The Roles Women Play

There are a lot of different roles that women take in our society and in their families, there are stay-at-home moms, working moms, women pursuing education, and women starting their own companies. We are moms, daughters, sisters, and spouses, but we are also not just our roles and our accomplishments but our unique selves. Something that is important to acknowledge when celebrating Women’s Day and throughout this month are the struggles and triumphs that we face every day.
